Kreah’s New Contributor, Lord Jedi, reviews ‘Sorry I Love You’ (MISA)

Lord Jedi owns Haida’s Domain, and a frequent visitor of kreah-craze.com. She is now contributing to this site some of her reviews on the Korean Dramas she have watched.

The first one is her Review on MISA, but actually she posted this review as a comment in My MISA review and I thought it would be better if this comment will be a post. And she agreed to do it. Lord Jedi loves MISA so much that she bursted her feelings when she read that I don’t love MISA that much because I love IJUKSA more.
I am also making side comments on this review…since my views were somehow at stake… (Lord Jedi…. Peace!!! ^_^)

Review: I’m Sorry, I Love You (MISA)

I can’t find words to describe how I love this drama just like I can’t find the words to describe how great the drama was and how great Ji Sub in here.

Before I watched this drama, I have a very high expectation and I kept telling myself of not to keep my hope too high since I will be disappointed (if it will not be met). But alas… No matter how I tell myself–the hope already very high and to my great surprise–this drama exceeded my high expectations. I know MISA story is great, but I never knew that it will be greater (than I expected). I know it’s sad and heartbreaking but never knew it will be that sadder and more heartbreaking (than I expected).

This is the only drama that I have read the reviews which all 4 reviewers gave a full 5 stars to it. Many viewers have said that this got to be the best Korean drama ever or at least one of the best Korean dramas ever made. I couldn’t agree for more since I do also feel the same way.

Misa is so damn heartbreaking that I cry really really a lot watching it. I never knew that I got that much tears. Huhu. Just listening to the OST can bring tears to your eyes and even more sadder when you know what the lyrics means. Misa OSTs are the best OSTs I have heard since all the songs are nice and it can be listen over and over again. It is more excellent than Save the Last Dance for Me OST in my opinion. Park Hyo Shin sings Snow Flower that I keep asking myself why he has to sing the song in such a sad tone that makes me wanted to cry even more. Many people said that you tend to appreciate the songs more after watching the drama, I couldn’t agree for more.

And Kreah, it surprises me that you don’t really like the drama. But I really appreciate your opinion. I guess you don’t really like tragic dramas unlike me. To me, what makes Misa great is the whole aspect… Great acting, excellently written, very good cinematography, beautifully shot, strong chemistry, great plot, unpredictable, no real villains like the other k-dramas, the surprise factor, the addictive factor in each episode, and etc…

[Kreah:  Hmmmm..... actually I liked this drama but I liked A love to Kill more because I am more attached to its story, and not something I would like to watch over and over again. What I said on my review was it seemed a predictable ending, yet became unpredictable at the end.... like you Lord Jedi... I was crying so hard at the end...why...why...why... and I agree there are no real villains like other K-Dramas. I learned to love those characters I hated at first episodes. For other visitors. You can read my review here.]

You may not agree with me but think of it… You never expect that Yoon was adopted and Eun Chae killed herself in the end, right?

[Kreah: Well.... I said in my review "I was caught off guard too when Yune confessed that he was adopted. I really never saw that coming."]

Plus, the drama is unpredictable unlike other Korean drama except the part where Moo Hyuk is dying and he’s going to fall for Eun Chae. Usually, I have the gift to predict the Korean dramas that I’m going to watch by just reading the short synopsis and seeing the cover pictures of the dramas. But not MISA. Sometimes, it surprises me since I never knew it was coming while watching this drama.

And you can see how the plot was really great as in one episode, you can be so happy that Moo Hyuk and Eun Chae spend some really wonderful evening together but in the same episode, it crashes the happiness in the next scene with Yoon’s accident. This show the k-drama at it’s best. And the narration that Moo Hyuk made to God in a perfect happiness when he sees Eun Chae fits perfectly in his family and the same narration is made when the happiness is crashes into pieces when he carried his sister on his back after she was treated harshly by their mother.

I also love how the director made the story so contrasting ~ Moo Hyuk is fighting for his life when he was shot and at the same time, his mother is on top of the world singing with Yoon happily in the a concert. And you can also find how contrasting it can be when Moo Hyuk is bathing his sister after she was harassed by some men while their Real Mother is singing happily again with Yoon and Min Joo at their cozy home.

[Kreah:  I agree with those contrasting examples you mentioned.... those scenes make the story more dramatic and hitting viewers's hearts slowly. But we have a lot of hard hitting dramas in the Philippines, so such scenes is normal to me, yet I agree that MISA's director created it well.]

Besides that, the drama was nicely written because the script can be so heartbroken although it’s very simple. You do not expect that simple words can be so heart broken when Moo Hyuk tells Eun Chae not to touch him. And the writer really know how to make the drama even more sadder when she made Moo Hyuk wanted to kiss Eun Chae but he didn’t and instead ask her not to touch him instead. You can see how he love this girl so much, how he wanted to touch her face, to hug her, but he said this thing to her because he knows that he will only leave her with memories once he died. And how heartbreaking can it be when Eun Chae secretly taking his pictures with her hand phone while he sleeps. What makes it even more heartbreaking when she captured his picture one by one… the eyes, the nose, the lips, and the whole face… And what makes it even more sadder when he deleted all that pictures so that she will not keep the sad memories of him. And the scene when he captured her in his mind before he leaves ~ I never though mind picture can be so heartbreaking. It was beautifully shot.

[Kreah:  Hey!!! I cried in these scenes you mentioned... so much....huhuhuhu... why delete those pictures!!! waaahhh!! But yeah heart breaking...]

And when she said “Saranghae” many times to him at the tunnel, what makes it even sadder? When he just look at her without saying anything at all. And the scene where both of them just sit without saying anything at all but yet in reality there’s so much things they wanted to say to each other… The silent between the two of them makes the drama even more heart wrenching.

[Kreah: Hmmm.. yeah... I felt those scenes of course. And felt them, too in A Lovc to Kill. Anyway...IJUKSA writer and MISA writer is the same person. hehehehe]

You may find it frustrating since they didn’t do anything at all before he died, but that are elements that makes the drama even more sadder. That’s the plot that the writer tries to deliver, to show that love can be so strong and memorable even though nothing really happen between the two of the character. Although the time is short between the two of them, but all the moments that they spend together are all precious moments and will be remembered…These are the elements that make this drama so great and it’s stand out from the rest of other Korean tearjerkers.

[Kreah: Yeah that is true love. But you know what? My bad side want them to do that something, before he dies...the writer...blame the writer...hehehe]

The love story doesn’t only center on the love between Eun Chae and Moo Hyuk but also the love between Moo Hyuk and his mother, Moo Hyuk to his sister and Galchi, the love of Yoon to Eun Chae and Min Joo. And etc… And in the end of the drama, everyone changed and their perspectives are different from the beginning of the drama.

[Kreah: I agree.... this drama is not focused on love stories, but on family relationships as well. many lessons can be learned.... I still love IJUKSA. And because I have watched MISA in DVD, in marathon, I didn't followed MISA in a regular show unlike IJUKSA, so no next episode factor happened... I believe my mood in watching MISA was somehow influenced by that Time Factor. I finished watching MISA in a day. And cried so hard after watching it.]

I love how the writer and the director made a story how one man can effect greatly and deeply the life of others around him in less than six months of his remaining life. And the ending is just perfect, Grandpa decided not to publish his book coz he is ashamed to face Moo Hyuk since Moo Hyuk even give his heart to Yoon after he died. And the mother doesn’t know the truth since she probably will kill herself too if she found out the truth. She treated Moo Hyuk so cruelly and to find out that he is her real son can only kills her. And one of the things that makes this story so great is there’s no real villain or the character that you hate to watch. You may dislike the mother but you got to love her for her unending love for Yoon. Usually in other typical Korean drama, there’re characters that you hate and wish they just disappear from the drama, but not in this one.

[Kreah: I love the mother at the ending....at first I really hate her for treating Moo Hyuk so bad...but I learned to love her when her true self was revealed in the story and Moo Hyuk forgave her. After all, she is also a victim of this tragedy.]

All these qualities are the reasons that make MISA so heartbreaking and memorable. You can’t find the qualities in MISA in other dramas in the world.

[Kreah:  Hmmm....I think it depends what country you are in, but I agree...this drama is not a typical korean drama.]

I haven’t found it yet and I can feel that I will never find it. After watching this drama, it makes me hard to enjoy other drama since other dramas can’t seemed to match the quality that MISA possessed. That’s the downside of it. I can go on forever but I guess I must stop now. Haha… Wow… how long have I write? I knew I shouldn’t start in the first place. Haha…

Surprisingly… Unlike you Kreah, I can watch Misa over and over again and still cry even I already watch it countless of time. Usually, I found it hard to rewatch other Korean dramas but it’s a different case with MISA. I’m glad that I’m not the only one who is like this. It seemed that other Misa addicts feel the same way too.

Haha, it’s so funny to see my comment becomes a review. It sure feel funny to read my own review.

I kinda agree with all your side comments, Kreah. Except that I don’t like A Love to Kill so much. I watched the drama, but it didn’t make me cry at all since it’s too predictable like other typical korean drama. Except for the part that Rain really takes revenge, that was awesome. It doesn’t have the heartbreaking factor like Misa and the ending is just ridicules. Why they didn’t end up together? The brother already died and he even asked Bok Ku to take care of the girl. Why instead of bring the girl to shelter or try to revive her, he decided to stay freeze together? Got people who make fun of this fact. I try to send you the article. And some people said that A Love to Kill try to follow Misa so much. I have no comment on this. And the ratings also suffer at Korea. This is sad since the cinemotography in this drama is excellent.

And, other than watching Korean dramas and movies, I watched all the other films all over the world, you name it; Hollywood, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Philippines, and etc… And I found out that Korean is the best in making human drama. They give you the sweet and warm feeling that you can’t find it in other films in the world. So, I kinda disagree with you when you said; “Hmmm

I saw MISA or I’m sorry I Love you at crunchyroll.com and it is on my top 20 Korean drama ahead of Autumn tale and Winter Sonata but behind Stairway to Heaven. So Ji Sub is one of my favorite actors and he was worthy of his best actor award in MISA.I think I cried more in FLOWERS FOR MY LIFE than in MISA and also in WONDERFUL LIFE. Snow Flower is a nice song but you should listen to Nuh re neum geul and Ga Na Yo from Wonderful life , Thinking of You (Stairway to heaven), Don’t Let farewell come and Till (Romance), Want to love you (Only You ), My Love ( Lets go to School sang do) and Go byul ( my name is kim Sam soon),they are the most beautiful korean love song I have ever heard plus I’m a Fool from Goong. I will give MISA 4 1/2 STARS
